Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan will visit his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin next month, in their first meeting since a dramatic collapse of relations in November 2015 that saw them accuse one another of trading oil with jihadists. Erdogan apologized last month and the Kremlin announced Wednesday that the two will meet in Russia during the first half of August. Much has happened since the last time they met. Most notably, Erdogan has survived a coup attempt, while Putin appears to have successfully restored Syrian President Bashar al-Assad’s control over much of Syria.
