Regime Change in Taiwan Could Give Investors a Rough Ride
We've seen a regime change in China. Only, not in mainland China. The change has come in the "ROC," as it's known, and how you'll get your passport stamped as the "rock" when you visit. The Republic of China. That's Taiwan to you and me. Tsai Ing-wen, the leader of the Democratic Progressive Party, has taken the position of president. This marks the first administration change in eight years, giving way to the Nationalist Party and Ma Ying-jeou, who favored reunification with China. Taiwan's first female president has shown a less conciliatory position, saying only that she would be a "staunch guardian of peace" with China.
