For 13 North Korean Defectors, Choice Between Fears For Families, Harsh Punishment
The staff of the failed overseas North Korean restaurant in Vietnam had a difficult choice. In the end 13 workers from the restaurant decided to get to South Korea and hope the loved ones they had had to leave at home would not suffer terribly as a result. It was concern for the workers’ families that South Korea’s unification ministry has given as the reason for refusing to disclose where they had come from after they arrived in the largest defection of North Koreans in a single group. The workers, one man, the restaurant manager, and a dozen women, are believed to have all been on the staff of the North Korean restaurant in a luxury tourist hotel in Danang, the major city of central Vietnam. ...
