26 Jan - Miss Universe 2015 Pia Wurtzbach has recently defended her previous answer during the Q&A portion at the prestigious pageant that has sparked a heated debate among her countrymen.

Previously, during the segment of the Miss Universe pageant held in Las Vegas late last year, the pageant hopeful was asked to give her opinion on the military presence of the United States in the Philippines, following the previous controversy surrounding the reopening of a US military base in the country.

To that, Wurtzbach responded, "I think that the United States and the Philippines have always had a good relationship with each other. We were colonized by the Americans and we have their culture and our traditions even up to this day and I think that we're very welcoming with the Americans. And I don't see any problem with that at all."

Her answer, although received with cheer and applause from the audience, received much criticism back home, especially from politicians who believed that Wurtzbach didn't know what she was saying.

When asked about it recently, according to PEP News, the 26-year-old, who just recently returned to the Philippines for a short visit, stated that people should take into consideration how she felt as she stood there in front of the judges.

"I think the reason why we have very strong opinions on this is because it's different when you're sitting and watching it on TV and have time to think about the answer," she said.

Wurtzbach stated that to her understanding, military presence is different from military base.

"Military presence sounds like aid, security, or military help. So it didn't sound wrong to me," she said, standing by her original response.

However, the beauty queen said that she will respect other people's opinion no matter if it differs from her own.
